Let us call them architects, in the field of engineering, architects are the most skilled when it comes to building and reconstruction. This is the case in dentistry, prosthodontists are the most skilled in the field of dentistry and are equipped with skills to perform the easiest to the most complex procedures like crowns, bridges, dental implants, and veneers. Not only that, but prosthodontists also have a high level of education, and the following things distinguish them from normal dentists.

Education

Prosthodontists learned this because they most of their time they spend in school and the job field. First and foremost, all prosthodontists must first earn a degree in dentistry. The first degree is a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). Both degrees are similar therefore it is the university's role to decide on either.

After completing dental school, they must complete additional years of education and residency. During this period, they can earn a Master of Science, certificate, or PhD in the field. Master's and certificate programs are completed in three years while PhD takes at least five years.

Admission for prosthodontic programs

The requirements of this field are very strict due to its nature. This means that the applicants must have completed a dentistry degree, they must have a letter of recommendation, Advanced Dental Admission Test scores, have work experience, complete a residency, and have a personal statement.

Applicants also must complete one standard application of the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS) from the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) which they can use in applying for more educational programs.

How much does a prosthodontist earn?

This is one of the most common questions you will come across from applicants and future prosthodontists. Prosthodontics is a lucrative field with an average salary of $229,000 annually. Self-employed prosthodontists might earn even more than that. For more information about the field, feel free to visit our website or our offices at will.
