How Dentures Can Harbor Bacteria Leading to Bad Breath and What to Do to Fix ItWhen you first get your new dentures, you are probably not thinking about the ways that wearing them can pose new challenges. After all, wearing dentures is something that you to improve your quality of life.

To be sure, dentures help you to lead the kind of life that you may not have been able to have before: you can enjoy foods that you may have given up, you can once again speak clearly and succinctly, and your self-confidence will enjoy a huge boost.

Still, wearing dentures does bring with it a new and unique set of challenges. One of these is the bad breath that can result when bacteria begin to collect in certain areas of the mouth. Here is what you can do to prevent this from happening.

Be Sure to Regularly Remove and Clean Your Dentures

Although you cannot get cavities in your dentures, bacteria can still collect in the nooks and crevices. These bacteria emit byproducts of their biological processes, leading to bad breath for you. You can help keep this down by carefully cleaning your dentures on a regular basis.

Using a denture brush, you will want to clean your dentures in a very similar way to the way you brush your teeth. You'll also want to pay attention to the portion of the dentures that presses up against your gum tissue.

Finally, soak the dentures in a denture cleaning solution to really knock down the bacterial levels. Before you put them back in your mouth, rinse them thoroughly with clean water. In addition, when your dentures are out, you should gently brush your teeth and gums with a soft brush to help clear out any bacterial pockets in your mouth.
