What Can I Eat After an Implant Surgery?

Posted on 6/13/2022 by Dr. Hallas
What Can I Eat After an Implant Surgery?Implant surgery can make you feel uncomfortable, especially after receiving the procedure. So you want to ensure you follow the post-op instructions and aftercare directions a dentist provides. Often, you will be thinking, “What should I eat after having implant surgery?” The after-effects of implant surgery will vary from one patient to another. However, there is a consensus on what patients should eat to reduce complications after undergoing oral surgery.

Diet in Days after Implant Surgery

During implant surgery, a dental specialist utilizes general anesthesia or IV sedation to numb the site or body, therefore, it is best to first consume liquids before food. If, however, you are getting wisdom teeth removed, you should avoid drinking liquids through straws. Straw tends to cause a sucking motion which increases bleeding from the wound. Try to drink straight from a glass. Don't eat or drink anything too hot and avoid carbonated drinks.

During the first 10 to 14 days, eat soft, non-chewing foods to allow your gum tissue to heal. Ensure you chop food into tiny pieces or blend into a puree. Patients who follow a blended, nourishing diet tend to heal faster than those who stick to rough and hard foods. Foods such as popcorn, chips, and nuts need to be avoided since they are likely to cause trauma to gums, hence prolonging the healing time.

Foods to Eat when you receive Implant Surgery

During the first 10 days following the surgery, you need soft foods such as soup, cottage cheese, applesauce, scrambled eggs, pudding, milkshakes, ground beef, broiled or baked fish, and finely chopped stewed chicken. You should drink juice, milk, water, and not too hot tea, and coffee. Other foods include mashed potatoes, soft bread, and macaroni. Ideally, just work with soft foods that won't tear down or hurt the wound.

If you have any questions regarding the foods you need to eat once you have implant surgery, contact us for help. We want to make sure you recover quickly and no complications occur after the implant surgery.
