Discover Cosmetic Dentistry That Makes Your Smile the First Thing People NoticeMany of the complaints we receive at Bay Lakes Center for Complex Dentistry involve cosmetics. Patients often want to change or fix cosmetic issues that they deem unsightly. From subtle changes to major repairs, we perform procedures that can improve your smile. Many of these procedures are used to address chipped, misshapen, discolored, or even missing teeth. Not only do these procedures improve the esthetic of your smile, they often improve other oral health issues, such as a misaligned bite. Porcelain VeneersPorcelain veneers are thin tooth-shaped shells that fit over your anterior (front) teeth. Veneers can be used to fix stained, misaligned, worn down, chipped, and abnormally shaped teeth. They can also be used to fill the space between gapped teeth. Veneers are considered to be a conservative alternative to dental crowns. Instead of a complete reshaping of enamel, we only need to lightly buff the tooth to compensate for the added thickness of the veneer. During the procedure, the surface of your tooth will be cleaned and lightly buffed. Then, we will take an impression of the buffed teeth and use it to custom build your new veneers. Once the fabrication is complete, we will apply cement to the tooth and place the veneers. We use a curing light to quickly and effectively harden the cement. Teeth WhiteningMany patients we see are unhappy with the shade of their teeth. We offer professional teeth whitening treatments that can make stains disappear and brighten your smile! During a routine appointment, Dr. Hallas will apply a bleaching solution directly to the teeth. We may also create a customized bleaching tray if you would like to continue the process at home. With a properly fit tray, your teeth are exposed to the correct amount of whitening solution. Store bought trays, and home kits do not offer the same precision. Whitening in the office typically takes about 45 minutes to an hour. Dental BondingDental bonding is another cosmetic procedure that allows us to fix teeth that are chipped, slightly decayed, abnormally shaped, gapped, or discolored. In many cases, bonding is a cost-effective alternative to porcelain veneers and a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings. During the procedure, we mold resin composite material until we have achieved the desired effect. Once the composite is the right shape, Bay Lakes Center for Complex Dentistry will permanently bond it to the tooth using a special cement and curing light. After the material has hardened, we will trim any excess, and polish the material until the sheen matches the rest of your tooth. Dental bonding can usually be completed in a single appointment. Other Cosmetic ProceduresDental crowns are another effective way to approve the cosmetics of a tooth, although they are typically reserved for a tooth that is structurally damaged as well. We may also suggest tooth reshaping and contouring correct crooked, chipped, or irregularly shaped teeth. Tooth contouring is also commonly used to alter the length or position of your teeth. If you are missing one or more teeth, we may also suggest a bridge or dental implant. Dental implants are the ideal choice for tooth replacement. However, both solutions will improve the cosmetics and function of your smile!
